    ATHLETICS

Presentation Wexford is a member of the South Leinster Schools Athletics Association.

The school competes in two disciplines each year, Cross Country and Track & Field.

Leinster Track & Field Championships 2011

    Picture
Day 1 of the Leinster Championships saw Katie Young run in the final of the minor girls 80 metre sprint.  Katie ran a strong race, but was unfortunate not to medal as she finished fourth in what was a very close finish.  Katie put the disappointment of not winning a medal behind her as she teamed up with Trudy Downey, Eimear Gilhooly and Sadhbh O'Flaherty for the minor Girls relay.  The girls ran a tremendous race with great change-overs and were in contention for a medal from gun to tape.  Again, following a very close finish, the girls were just outside the medals in fourth position.

Day 2  - The school had one athlete in competition, Christina Furlong.  Christina certainly possess great talent and ability as she launched the senior girls' hammer all of 41 metres to claim another gold medal and become Leinster Champion.  Christina now goes forward to the All Ireland Championships to be held in Tullamore on Saturday 4th June.  We would like to wish Christina all the best in what will be her final competition for the school!

South Leinster Track & Field Championships 2011

The South Leinsters were held in Scanlon Park, Kilkenny over two days.  On day one we had a very good day, with the Presentation athletes making the final in several events, and medalling in two!  Trudy Downey finished fourth in the minor girls shot putt, while Eimear Gilhooly was 5th in the minor girls 80 metres.  Katie Young showed her pace with a great run in the minor girls 80 metres where she claimed the silver medal!  Katie was joined on the minor girls relay team by Trudy, Eimear and Sadhbh O'Flaherty as they qualified for the final.  The girls ran a great race to finish a clear second place and qualify for  the Leinster Championships in May.

Christina Furlong travelled on day 2 and came away with yet another South Leinster gold in the hammer! Christina can now add this gold to her previous golds at Intermediate and junior level!  Taking everything in her stride, Christina travelled home from Kilkenny and returned to classes for the rest of the day! Well done Christina!
