Double Delight! Following Double Victories over Loreto 5-12-11
The fantastic team work and dedication of the under 16 and senior basketball players shone through on Monday last, as they claimed both South East titles with clear victories over Loreto Wexford at the finals in WIT.
Under 16. Presentation 23 –Loreto Wexford 14
The under 16 team were always in control of their fixture as their defence stood firm when they came under fire from Loreto. Leanne Brennan and Kasey Maher were to the fore on defence, as they twarted any attack launched by Loreto. Meanwhile on offence, the slick passing of Ciara Redmond, Cliodhna Flynn, Jessica Hore and Sophie Donnelly when introduced, displayed exactly why the Presentation girls remain unbeaten in this competition.
Presentation led from start to finish in this exciting tie, with the half time score 12-4 in their favour. They continued to add scores in the second half, with Jessica Hore really asserting herself on proceedings both in defence and attack. The final buzzer was greeted with euphoria by both players and supporters as Presentation claimed the title on a scoreline of 23-14.
Team: Jessica Hore (8), Sophie Donnelly, Ciara Redmond, Ania Blachon, Shannon Di-Luca, Leanne Brennan (9), Joanna Kavanagh, Kasey Maher (6), Cliodhna Flynn, Roisin Hayden, Sadhbh O’Flaherty, Kim Brazzill, Katie Mae Boyce, Niamh Kenny, Bridin Nolan.
Senior – Presentation 36 –Loreto Wexford 26
The Seniors took to the court following the under 16 victory for what was expected to be a cracker of a match, as Loreto were intent on causing an upset. It was Loreto who started the brightest, leading 6-3 at the end of the first quarter, with all three Pres points coming from Rebecca Kirwan. Presentation settled into their rthyhm in the second period as the influential Emma Walsh and determined Eadaoin Miskella took control of proceedings; outscoring their opponents 10-2 to lead Loreto 13-8 at the turn-around.
Excitment oozed in the third quarter, as Loreto were determined to claw back the Presentation lead. Loreto scored some fine baskets to bring themselves to within two points of the Pres, before Aleisha Cullen cooly slotted home a swish, to push the lead out to four again. Presentation put themselves firmly in the driving seat with three unanswered baskets through Eadaoin Miskella, Rebecca Kirwan and Aleisha Cullen to end the third quarter 26-14 in front, and brush aside any comeback from Loreto.
Further baskets were added by both sides in the final quarter, which descended into a stop-start affair. Lauren Lawlor was fouled several times going to the basket, with Loreto finding themselves on team fouls. Some late scores from Loreto didn’t dull the polished performance of the Presentation girls as they won by a handsome 10 points, with the game finishing 36 to 26 Presentation’s favour.
Team: Jessica Reville, Aleisha Cullen (8), Aine McDonnell, Eadaoin Miskella (8), Cathy Wheeler, Lauren Lawlor (6), Emma Walsh (5), Chloe Thomas, Rebecca Kirwan (7), Niamh Butler (2), Eleanor Franquera-Nolan.
All credit to Loreto in both matches, they were well prepared and the game was played in a tough, yet fair manner.
Our girls now go on to the All-Ireland play-offs after Christmas. The dates, opposition and venue have yet to be finalised. Well done to both squads, their wins were just rewards for the amount of work they have put in this year.

Seniors and U16s into South East Finals 25-11-11
An exciting afternoon in the sports hall saw both teams win their respective semi-finals against Stella Maris, Tramore.
First up on the day were the under 16s, who have really made progress in the past few weeks. They were certainly up against it from the start, as the visitors were exerting their authority with a distinct height advantage. The Presentation girls stuck to their task and worked hard through the first two, low-scoring quarters to see them lead by a basket, 12-10 at half time.
In the second half the girls superior fitness and team work came to the fore and they really began to find their groove. Some excellent work on defence and patience in attack saw them stride into a lead that they were never going to relinquish as they ran out winners on a scoreline of 32-14.

The victorious under 16 squad following their impressive win.
The seniors had much to live up to following the manner in which the under 16's had finished their game, and a very focused and determined squad took to the court with only a win on their mind. Presentation started the better of the two sides and got a few early baskets on the board to establish their intent. This was a lead they were never going to relinquish as they demonstrated fantastic team work and team ethic to secure their place in the final with a 42-15 victory.
Both finals are due to take place in Waterford on Monday 5th December. Loreto Wexford will provide the opposition in both age groups, following their victories over St Anne's of Tipperary Town on Friday 25th November. Both Presentation teams will be busy in training next week to take on our near neighbours, hoping to bring some the silverware back to Grogan's Road side of Wexford.

2nd Year Lunch-time League 23-11-11

Over the past number of weeks, Mrs Mahon has been running a 3v3 league every Wednesday for 2nd years. The league promotes participation, team work and skill development and was truly enjoyed by all involved. The final took place this week and saw a hard working team with Camila Amiranhov, Kayleigh Goodison, Ciara Doyle and Sadhbh O'Flaherty take on the trio of Trudy Downey, Dearbhla Moore and Eimear Gilhooly. It was Trudy, Dearbhla and Eimear who won on the day, but in truth, every girl who took part are the real winners! Well done to all and a huge mention to Mrs Mahon and her team of referees who made it all possible.
1st Year Basketball Training

Under 16 - Presentation 27 - Loreto Wexford 22
Presentation clung on to their unbeaten run in the league stages of the competition to book their place in the South East semi-final, following a hard fought win over local rivals, Loreto Wexford. The game was certainly exciting as it raced from end to end throughout each of the four quarters, at a frantic pace. The Presentation girls stuck to their task well and despite some excellent play from their near neighbours, it was the home side who claimed the victory, showing their experience in the final quarter to pull away from Loreto in a tight, tense game.
The girls now go forward as group winners and will play the second placed team in the Waterford/Carlow/Tipperary group.
Team: Jessica Hore, Cliodhna Flynn, Ania Blachon, Shannon Di-Luca, Leanne Brennan, Katie Mae Boyce, Sophie Donnelly, Roisin Hayden, Kacey Maher, Kim Brazzill, Ciara Redmond, Joanna Kavanagh, Bridin Nolan.

In the second match of the day, the senior teams battled it out for group honours as both teams were unbeaten going into the tie. The game started with both defences dominating and scores at a premium. As the game wore on, chances, few and far between had to be well earned on both sides. It was the Presentation girls who remained in the driving seat despite the best efforts and tough tactics of their opponents.
The win for the Seniors ensured they topped their group, and like the under 16s, they will head into the semi-finals with home advantage and playing the second placed team from the other side of the draw.

Basketball Ireland Schools Cup 2012
Senior - Presentation 33 - Mount Temple 38
Monday the 14th of October saw Mount Temple, Malahide make the journey to Grogans Road for the Senior Schools Cup tie. The Dublin side set their stall early with some piercing cuts to the basket which they converted into scores and the home team knew they had a game on their hands here. The first quarter ended with the home team slightly up, 13-10.
The second quarter was a high-tempo affair with both teams playing high octane ball. Again it was an end to end game with plenty of bask breaks and excellent defensive rebounding on both sides. Mount Temple settled during this period and closed the gap on the home side as they out-scored them nine points to eight in this quarter to leave the half time score at 21 to 19, with Pres still leading.
The second half continued where the first left off, but the extra two minutes per quarter was starting to take its toll on both sides. Missed baskets and defensive rebounds were a plenty as the game moved up and down the court without either side converting possession into scores, as the lowest scoring period of the match saw the Dublin side edge out the Pres girls by 6 points to 4, leaving the sides tied at 25-25 entering the final ten minutes.
Presentation began the final quarter the brighter of the two sides with a tight defence setting the platform for Aleisha Cullen and Niamh Butler to combine to add three baskets and push the home side into a clear lead. Mount Temple however were not going to let this game slip away from them as they began a flurry of attacks on the home side, and put nine unanswered points on the board, leaving the home side trailling. They added a further two baskets before Aleisha Cullen got one back for the Pres, but time was running out and Mount Temple were deserving winners on a score-line of 38 points to 33.
Presentation Wexford: Chloe Thomas, Jessica Reville, Aleisha Cullen, Aine McDonnell, Eadaoin Miskella, Leanne Brennan, Lauren Lawlor, Emma Walsh, Cathy Wheeler, Rebecca Kirwan, Niamh Butler, Eleanor Nolan, Caoimhe O'Sullivan. Jessica Hore.

Match Reports, week ending Friday 22nd October
U16 - Presentation - OLOL New Ross
A steady team performance in the first half ensured that Presentation extend their unbeaten run to three games in the South East League. These sides last met in the quarter final last year, when the New Ross side made life very difficult for the Pres. This game was to be no different as the New Ross girls mounted a comeback in the third quarter and it took a massive team effort for the Presentation girls to hold tight on defence and charge forward for some vital baskets when the game was in the melting pot.
Team: Jessica Hore, Cliodhna Flynn, Ania Blachon, Shannon Di-Luca, Leanne Brennan, Katie Mae Boyce, Sophie Donnelly, Roisin Hayden, Kacey Maher, Kim Brazzill, Ciara Redmond, Joanna Kavanagh, Katherine O’Rourke, Bridin Nolan.
Senior - Presentation 31 - 17 OLOL New Ross
The New Ross girls worked hard and pushed the Presentation girls all the way to the end in the senior tie. Presentation never found any real momentum in a fixture that saw tough, tight defence on both sides. The match provided the Presentation girls with an opportunity to put into practice some tactics and plays for their upcoming Irish Schools Cup match versus Mount Temple Malahide on Monday 24th, which they will now turn their attention to.
Team: Jessica Reville, Aleisha Cullen, Aine McDonnell, Caoimhe O’Sullivan, Lauren Lawlor, Emma Walsh, Niamh Butler, Eleanor Nolan, Niamh Butler.
Basketball Match Reports, week ending Friday 14th October
U16 - Colaiste Bride 4 - 29 Presentation
The hard-working under 16s made it two wins from two as they took to the road to play Colaiste Bride, Enniscorthy. The girls are improving with every game and confidence is growing within the squad as every player played their part in this victory. Better discipline on defense and a high tempo passing offense were key to this performance.
Team: Jessica Hore, Cliodhna Flynn, Ania Blachon, Shannon Di-Luca, Leanne Brennan, Katie Mae Boyce, Sophie Donnelly, Niamh Kenny, Roisin Hayden, Kacey Maher, Kim Brazzill, Ciara Redmond, Joanna Kavanagh, Katherine O’Rourke.
Senior - Colaiste Bride 10 - 66 Presentation

Basketball Match Reports, week ending Friday 7th October
Presentation 37 - 20 Bridgetown
The Under 16 team secured one win from one in the opening league fixture against Bridgetown this week. The corresponding fixture last year saw the teams level at the end of normal time, with the Presentation players really having to dig deep in over-time to secure the win. A much more balanced team performance this time round secured the win for the girls.
Team: Jessica Hore, Cliodhna Flynn, Ania Blachon, Shannon Di-Luca, Leanne Brennan, Katie Mae Boyce, Sophie Donnelly, Niamh Kenny, Roisin Hayden, Kacey Maher, Kim Brazzill, Ciara Redmond, Joanna Kavanagh, Katherine O’Rourke.
Presentation 61 – 15 Bridgetown
The Senior basketball team got their league campaign off to a winning start away to Bridgetown this week. The experience of the fifth and sixth year players gelled very well with the ‘new’ senior players to create an energetic and high tempo team performance. It was a match where the strength and depth of the entire squad was key to the scoring success on the court.
Team: Chloe Thomas, Jessica Reville, Aleisha Cullen, Aine McDonnell, Kathy Wheeler, Caoimhe O’Sullivan, Lauren Lawlor, Emma Walsh, Rebecca Kirwan, Niamh Butler, Eleanor Nolan.
Both teams are now looking forward to taking on Colaiste Bride next week, and hope to continue their winning form.

Second Years bow out in All Ireland Playoff

The second years having worked very diligently from September, recorded league wins over Rosbercon, Loreto and Colaiste Bride to see them top the Wexford section. The girls overcame Rosbercon in the quarter final; St Anne's of Tipperary Town in the semi-final before losing out to Presentation Waterford in the South East final.
As South East runner up, the girls qualified for an All Ireland Playoff against St Mary's Edenderry. Thankfully, Presentation were drawn home advantage for the game against the Offaly side. On the day, things didn't go in the home side's favour and St Mary's progressed to the next round of the All Ireland competition.
